This class is a 40-hour block of the 2024 Kentucky State Police, agency-wide Law Enforcement Avoidance Position Program, with an emphasis on injury avoidance, while also controlling the suspect in high-stress situations. Emphasis on protecting the perpetrator as well as the officer through technique and confidence when in a physical altercation. This will be accomplished by learning, understanding, and demonstrating effective techniques as well as being able to not only articulate their actions but also justify them. Knowing the legality and having the confidence to execute the proper technique at the correct time.

This In-service is a 3-day 24-hour course that will be primarily for Troopers from Cadet Class 101-103. The three days of the course will be a refresher of STOPS training and Counter Ambush.  For the last three remaining days, we will focus on tactics when approaching stopped vehicles as well as how to react when engaged in an ambush-type scenario. This course will allow Troopers to touch up and learn new skills that are crucial while working the road.

This course is designed to update Kentucky State Police Troopers, Kentucky State Police Officers, and/or local law enforcement officers, of all ranks, on a variety of topics and tactics.  Topics covered will include: handling deadly calls, defensive tactics update, STOPs update, driving update, and a legal update.  Classroom work and physical activity will be nearly 50/50.  Students who do not participate in physical exercises and/or assignments will not receive in-service credit. 8 Hours will be delivered online.

This class is approved for 40 hours of KLEC Credit.

Patrol Weapons and Tactics Refresher
