This course is designed for newly assigned Detectives with less than two years of experience in investigations, or Troopers being considered for an assignment as a General Investigations Detective. This 72-hour course will cover topics ranging from Forensic Lab capabilities, evidence collection and packaging, interviewing, photography, blood spatter, and many more.  Practical exercises will be conducted in many areas to supplement classroom instruction and to better facilitate student learning.

Special Instructions: Students will be required to bring all assigned investigative equipment (camera, digital recorder, evidence collection kits, etc.)

LOCATION: POST 4 or POST 15 (will be Frankfort if facilities aren't available).

This course is designed to inform Kentucky State Police Troopers, Kentucky State Police Officers, and/or local law enforcement officers, of all ranks, how to live a healthier lifestyle.  Topics covered will range from mental health, emotional intelligence, social intelligence, nutrition, PTSD, coping with stress, nutrition, and implementation of the agency’s new F.A.S.T. test, defensive tactics, strength training, conditioning training, and functional fitness.  Classroom work and physical activity will be nearly 50/50; classroom time will be 70:30 for participation: lecture. This course will require physical participation, require students to complete assignments, and give short presentations in front of the class.  Students that do not participate in physical exercises and/or assignments will not receive in-service credit.  Preference for spring course enrollment will be given to post fitness coordinators. After the completion of this course, Troopers may be listed as mentors at their post/branch on the agency’s intraweb.

This course is designed to develop Kentucky State Police Troopers, Kentucky State Police Officers, and/or local law enforcement officers, with at least 3 years of experience, as law enforcement instructors.  Topics covered will range from building a course, engaging students, classroom teach-back, skill teach-back, learn operations of a cadet class, and other instructor-specific topics.  Instructor instruction and student teach back will be nearly 50/50; classroom time will be 60:40 for assignment work: lecture. This course will require physical participation, require students to complete assignments, and give several presentations in front of the class.  Students that do not participate in physical exercises and/or assignments will not receive in-service credit.  After the completion of this course, Troopers/Officers will be considered qualified for adjunct positions at the Kentucky State Police Academy.  This course will prepare students for future full-time positions as instructors and for a KLEC instructor course in the future.

KLEC Instructor Certification is not required.

This course is for instructors that are interested in becoming better or those looking to become instructors.

Course Description: This course is designed to review, refresh, and update investigative techniques taught used by units assigned to patrol operations. Topics include strategies for success in investigating crimes against people, property, and society. Additional considerations are given for crime scene response by the patrol unit.

This course is designed to provide instruction on how to:  recognize, react, and respond to an ambush situation.  This course will also cover legal considerations of returning fire during an ambush and also how to rapidly assess a downed officer and render appropriate aid.

Sergeant's Leadership Academy

This course was developed to assist newly promoted line-level supervisors transition into their new position.  The students are provided instruction pertaining to administrative and operational procedures their new assignment will require.  The student will be required to complete assignments outside of classroom instruction.

Audience: KSP/CVE Newly Promoted Sergeants (2021 Process); Sergeants Who Have Not Completed This Course.
