This course is designed to update Kentucky State Police Troopers, Kentucky State Police Officers, and/or local law enforcement officers, of all ranks, on a variety of topics and tactics.  Topics covered will include:  defensive tactics update, STOPs update, SFST Refresher, Financial Wellness, TacMed Topics, Drill and Ceremony, "the 31",  and a legal update.  Classroom work and physical activity will be nearly 50/50.  Students who do not participate in physical exercises and/or assignments will not receive in-service credit. 

This class is approved for 40 hours of KLEC Credit.

Incident Response with UAS Integration

KSP Sworn Only.  KLEC Certification is Pending.

This 40 hour course will teach students the topics of man-tracking and the integration of drone technology with law enforcement incidents.

Each student will receive training in UAS operations.  Students will be given a mulitiple-choice exam and be required to pass a practical evaluation.  Upon successful completion of the exam and practical evaluation, students will be certified to operation drones for KSP incidents.

 

Required Equipment:

  • Each student should coordinate with their respective Posts to bring their agency drone for the certification day (no personal drones).
  • Appropriate attire for outdoor activities (hiking shoes, rain jacket, etc.).
  • Portable radio.
  • MDT with charger.

New Trooper In-Service

This In-service is a 3-day 24-hour course that will be primarily for Troopers from Cadet Class 102-104. The three days of the course will be a refresher of STOPS training and Counter Ambush.  For the last three remaining days, we will focus on tactics when approaching stopped vehicles as well as how to react when engaged in an ambush-type scenario. This course will allow Troopers to touch up and learn new skills that are crucial while working the road.

The Reid Technique of Interviewing and Advanced Interrogation

This course will provide the student with the research and methodology as developed by John E. Reid and associates for a successful interview and interrogation strategies. Course topics will also cover relevant case law and indicators of deception.

Special Instructions: Each post has received two spots for this class, please have prior approval from your Commander before registering. All fees will be paid for through Financial Grants Manangement once all spots have been filled and registered through REID. The Academy will take care of registering each spot through REID.

2025 Financial Wellness

This program is a component of the organization's comprehensive initiative to promote the well-being of its officers. It aims to provide students with insights into various facets of financial wellness during and after retirement. Geared towards troopers and officers who are planning to retire within the next 3-5 years, this course serves as an introductory guide to assist individuals in assessing their choices and preparing for the future. The curriculum encompasses a wide range of topics related to officer wellness, with a particular focus on the Kentucky Retirement System, retirement benefits, and the potential effects of social security, taxes, and other factors on career-related choices.
