Pursuit Strategies to Encompass HCG Vehicle

This 5 day 40-hour course is for Units that have or will have a High Center of Gravity vehicle (SUV’s:  Tahoe, Ford Explorer, or Truck) in the next year.  Three days of the course will take place on the driving track in Richmond and will NOT be intrusive on the brakes, rotors, tires, engine, and transmission.  We will focus on turning radius, wheelbase, steering input and precision driving.  This will also satisfy the Jill’s law requirement for a two-year period.  Two days of training will take place at the KSP Academy.  We will have a CPR, AED, First aid class, as well as, a STOPS class that will go over the challenges of traffic stops using a HCG vehicle and a RADAR/LDAR update. You will receive a certification/re-certification for first Aid CPR as well.

Law Enforcement Avoidance Position II (LEAP II)

This class is a 40-hour block of the 2023 Kentucky State Police,  agency-wide Law Enforcement Avoidance Position Program, with an emphasis on injury avoidance, while also controlling the suspect in high-stress situations. Emphasis on protecting the perpetrator as well as the Trooper through technique and confidence when in a physical altercation. This will be accomplished by learning, understanding, and demonstrating effective techniques as well as being able to not only articulate their actions but also justify them. Knowing the legality and having the confidence to execute the proper technique at the correct time.

Water Survival and First Aid / CPR

Calendar Oct 2, 2023 at 8 am, runs for 1 week

This course will provide information for water safety and survival skills for sworn personnel who work around a waterborne environment.  This course will require physical participation and students should be competent with basic swimming skills.  Additionally, this course will encompass First Aid, CPR, and AED training.  Students will receive certification which is valid for two years by the American Heart Association. 

 

This course will be held at the Kentucky State Police Academy and Fallen Springs Center in Versailles KY.

Combative and Tactics I

Crowd Management and Protection Course

This course will train attendees in the Kentucky State Police tactics, techniques, and procedures for responding to a crowd management situation at the platoon leader, squad leader, and squad member levels.

Attendance Restrictions: Only KSP Command Staff, Post-level leadership (Commanders, Lieutenants, etc.), and all Operations personnel that are assigned to a Post level Crowd Management Team may attend this course. Preference for attendance shall be given to Crowd Management Team members at the Squad Sergeant and Trooper Levels.

Special Instructions: Attendees of this course shall bring all of their individually issued crowd management equipment from post level: helmet with face shield, gas mask with bag, laser protective glasses, chest and leg protectors, riot stick, riot shield. Camel-bak type hydration carriers are encouraged to be brought as well but are not required.

Trooper/Officer Health & Wellness

LOCATION: KSP Academy (Frankfort)

This course is designed to inform Kentucky State Police Troopers, Kentucky State Police Officers, and/or local law enforcement officers, of all ranks, how to live a healthier lifestyle.  Topics covered will range from mental health, emotional intelligence, social intelligence, nutrition, PTSD, coping with stress, nutrition, and implementation of the agency’s new F.A.S.T. test, defensive tactics, strength training, conditioning training, and functional fitness.  Classroom work and physical activity will be nearly 50/50; classroom time will be 70:30 for participation: lecture. This course will require physical participation, require students to complete assignments, and give short presentations in front of the class.  Students that do not participate in physical exercises and/or assignments will not receive in-service credit.  Preference for spring course enrollment will be given to post fitness coordinators. After the completion of this course, Troopers may be listed as mentors at their post/branch on the agency’s intraweb.

 

This class is approved for 40 hours of KLEC Credit.
